“I was always an unusual girl.
My mother told me I had a chameleon soul, no moral compass pointing due north, no fixed personality; just an inner indecisiveness that was as wide and as wavering as the ocean,” (Lana Del rey- Drive).
I’m definitely not an individual for the faint of heart… just kidding. My names Ashleigh but I go by Aiko, 李诗雷、愛子。Half Mexican /Half German, raised in a Dutch family (Holland Michigan) but feels more comfortable with Japanese. Still trying to find my “place” in the world. I really don’t fit in with any group or scene for more than a hot second. I’m the mother-in-training to two beautiful girls, 8 years old and an 3, as well as a 12 year old boy that has gone to an open adoption. I say I’m still in training because it’s hard to gain that natural soccer mom instinct that all these other pinterest wonder women have when your own mother is still living out her own scotch driven midlife crisis since 2002. I’m pretty proud though. I killed a cactus and a bonsai tree but I’ve managed to keep us three alive. I know how to succeed at life but I do shit backwards and still come out the same. I’d rather be broken than basic. Just graduated from University in May 2016 with a BA in Chinese and Japanese studies and sociology minor. It was great. My Chinese is basic, Japanese is fair, and I feel entitled to give my outlook from the sociological perspective because of my minor. I have most recently been taking up Korean language classes, which I can read and write, but speaking/listening is no bueno. I don’t speak Spanish contrary to popular belief, I’m so white I had to ask when cinco de mayo was. I’m as Mexican as a taco bell.
Broken, bruised, refurbished, I have issues. Blunt, mouthy, honest, but beyond catering to appease others agendas. I’m the most insecure narcissistic confident…. in a nut shell I wasn’t hugged enough as a child.
