This is my pride and joy when it comes to what I have written in the past. It is a very long paper I wrote to graduate with my BA in Chinese in Japanese studies. I combined my love for horror films/disturbing shit, sociology, and Japanese culture. My paper discusses how contemporary Japanese horror films have iconified the female form as a symbol of horror and destruction. Ghosts are the prime choice in these films, and the consistent usage of women as ghosts I believe, are a manifestation of anxiety in a very patriarchal society that is undergoing major social changes since the Post-war period. These female supernatural entities embody the struggle of the modern Japanese women trying to find a balance between finding her identity and appeasing traditional cultural norms.
